Government response to COVID-19

We must all stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives. If too many people become seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to handle it - meaning more people are likely to die, not just from COVID-19 but from other illnesses as well.

Flood update

Due to the heavy rainfall from Storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge, we have seen flooding from rivers across my constituency. Currently, the total number of properties damaged by flooding in both the Forest of Dean District and Tewkesbury Borough areas of the constituency stand at 73.

Strong borders

Last week, the Immigration and Social Security Coordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons, representing an important milestone in paving the way for the new UK points-based immigration system. 

Our future relationship

On 31 January, this country left the EU and we are now entering a new chapter in our history. This Conservative Government, and I as your Member of Parliament, have honoured the expressed wish of a clear majority of people across the Forest of Dean and the country.  

New points-based immigration system

Last week the Government set out how it will take back control of our borders and end free movement of people with a new points-based immigration system. 

Policing in Newent

A meeting between residents and police is taking place in Newent today, and while Gloucestershire and the Forest of Dean have low crime levels, a small number of constituents have written to me with separate concerns about policing in Newent, which I have passed on to Gloucestershire Constabulary

Meeting with the Chief Constable of Gloucestershire

Fortunately, the Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire have relatively low levels of crime compared to the rest of the country. However, that is not to say that we are without crime and I have recently been contacted by a number of constituents regarding incidents that have caused concern.
