Last month I had the honour of welcoming the Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vadym Prystaiko, to the Forest of Dean.
I took the ambassador to Lydney Harbour Estate where we visited Mabey Bridge – a leading international provider of high-quality modular steel bridging solutions.
Mabey Bridge is working in collaboration with Network Rail to deliver a £10 million package of support which will help Ukraine repair its war damaged infrastructure, such as the 75 Ukrainian railway bridges that have been lost since the start of Russia’s illegal invasion a year ago.
In addition to the equipment and supplies that we are providing, 13 Ukrainian engineers are being trained at Mabey Bridge who will go back to Ukraine and share the training with their fellow workers so that they know how to use this equipment and can quickly get their railway back up and running.
I am proud that the Forest of Dean is playing its part in making sure that Ukraine wins this war against Russia.
