Recently I was privileged to visit Beachley Barracks, home to 1st Battalion The Rifles, just outside Sedbury.
Upon arrival I was met with a bugle fanfare and the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Shercliff and members of his senior leadership team.
We spoke in detail about the challenges that 1 Rifles have experienced lately within their core military role, and also the support they have provided during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
I also met with Wiltshire Police Chief Constable Kier Pritchard, who delivered a fantastic presentation to 1 Rifles officers and guests regarding leadership and the challenges that his force has faced in recent times, in particular the March 2018 Novichok attack in Salisbury.
I was very lucky to spend time into the evening with 1 Rifles officers and guests for a fantastic barbeque in the gardens of the 1 Rifles Officers’ Mess, with the beautiful River Severn estuary providing an incredible backdrop alongside the gorgeous evening sunshine.
I look forward to returning to Beachley Barracks soon.
