I had a lovely time visiting the St Briavels Carnival yesterday. The weather was pleasant, and it was great to see so many people out enjoying the festivities. The Carnival started with a procession and a wonderful fancy dress competition. The St Briavels Pavilion served tea and cakes and there was a variety of food providers selling everything from Thai food and a Hog Roast to ice creams. All the classic summer carnival activities were on offer from the coconut shy, skittles, splat the rat and archery. Money raised at the Carnival goes to the maintenance of the village playing field.
As well as supporting the local community, the carnival was an opportunity for me to talk with many of the charity and community organisations we have here in the Forest of Dean. It was also great to talk with lots of local residents and pick up any issues they may have.
