It was my great pleasure to attend the grand opening of The Rising Sun at Woodcroft recently. It was lovely to attend the opening with local councillor, Nick Evans. The grand opening was a fantastic event. More than 100 volunteers helped with making this day possible and they had participation from the whole community, from 18-year-olds to 85-year-olds.
The culmination of almost ten years of hard work saw the community hold two soft launches prior to the grand opening. Not only did the pub enjoy huge community support, but it also benefited from the help of many local businesses during the extensive refurbishment.
All of this was made possible because of the work of The Rising Sun Woodcroft Community Pub Management Committee and their dedicated chair Michelle Hayes. The committee were helped by the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund. The £150 million Community Ownership Fund is for communities across the United Kingdom. It has been set up to help communities take ownership of assets and amenities at risk of closure.
Currently the pub is open for drinks, however the kitchen will open this month. I am looking forward to visiting The Rising Sun again and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers.
