On Saturday I attended Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust’s Open Day at Malswick.
Hereford and Gloucestershire Canal Trust (H&GCT) acquired the site near Newent in 2017 and have been working to restore this stretch of canal since that time. The site features two sections of canal restoration – Malswick West and Malswick East and once restored, this will be directly accessible from Malswick House.
Wildlife corridors will be created along the route, through the woodland, and planting is already taking place along the recently dug site.
Volunteers led groups along the canal route, answering questions and advising on plans for the development of the site. Volunteers are always needed for projects such as this, either physically on site, behind the scenes or promoting the canal trust at local events.
