I am proud to be supporting English Tourism Week and in particular all of the fantastic tourism offers we have here in the Forest of Dean.
As your local MP, I have the pleasure of regularly visiting the fantastic attractions and businesses that make the Forest of Dean one of England’s top tourist destinations.
English Tourism Week runs from the 17th to the 26th March and it’s the annual celebration of the tourism industry, showcasing its economic importance to the local economy and community. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating amazing experiences and amazing people’, highlighting the role played by the wonderful people working in the sector and how they ensure visitors have fantastic experiences.
Tourism is an important part of our area’s economy, supporting 2,180 full time jobs and bringing in £105,053,000 worth of visitor related spend.
To celebrate our tourism sector, VisitEngland has highlighted four outstanding destinations from across the Forest of Dean.
Celebrating Amazing People: John Belcher who has volunteered at the Dean Heritage Centre for over 20 years.
Celebrating Amazing Experiences: Puzzlewood an enchanting woodland used as a film location for many films including Harry Potter and Star Wars.
Celebrating Amazing Places to Stay: St Briavels YHA a Norman castle transformed into a hostel.
Celebrating Amazing Memories: The perfect family friendly destination to make memories.
If you are looking for inspiration for your next adventure, I would suggest taking a look at the Visit Dean Wye website.
