Last week marked one year since I was appointed as Secretary of State for Transport in Rishi Sunak’s Government.

On Friday, I had the great pleasure of visiting the next phase of the major A417 upgrading scheme.

After many years of campaigning by Gloucestershire MPs, it is fantastic to see work on the A417 progressing, backed by significant Government funding.

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister announced that the Government is creating the first smokefree generation, by bringing forward legislation so that children turning 14 this year or younger will never be legally sold tobacco products.

Today I took a ride around the Forest on The Robin. For those that don’t know, The Robin is a ‘bookable bus service' that currently covers the south of the Forest of Dean as well as the north Cotswolds.

Earlier this month I attended the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester and in my capacity as Secretary of State for Transport, I had the honour of delivering an address to the main conference hall.

This morning, I enjoyed paying a visit to the Friday Market at the Picture House Gallery in Cinderford.

Last week, I attended the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester as both the Secretary of State for Transport and as your local Member of Parliament for the Forest of Dean.

Buses are the most popular form of public transport in this country and as the Forest’s MP, I know that they are often the main source of transportation available for those in rural areas who do not drive.

Throughout my time as the Forest’s MP, I have been a strong advocate of delivering as many healthcare services as possible within our area.

The next cost of living payment, worth £300 for 8,700 vulnerable and low-income households in the Forest of Dean, will be made between the 31st October and 19th November 2023.
