Road Closure – Beachley Road, Sedbury

Gloucestershire Highways are planning on temporarily closing Beachley Road. The planned start and finish period will be between Friday 10th January to Tuesday 14th January (not including Saturday or Sunday) and will start at 19:00 hours and end at 07:00. The final day of work will start on Tuesday 14th at 19:00 hours and finish 07:00 on the morning of Wednesday 15th January. Gloucestershire Highways are closing the road in order to resurface a stretch of it that has been deteriorating. This work is vitally important, I have had a number of constituents contact me previously regarding the deteriorating condition and the road is in need of major resurfacing and I am pleased that Gloucestershire Highways are planning to address this issue.

Between the hours of 19:00 and 07:00, there will be a full road closure, meaning that residents will be unable to travel back and forth while the road is closed. It is advised that residents bear this in mind and make any necessary arrangements ahead of time. I understand that Gloucestershire Highways have written to residents to provide further information on this work.

As stated, this is a vital piece of road improvement work. However, I have also been contacted by a few constituents who are concerned about access during the period of time that the road will be closed.

As a result, I have contacted Gloucestershire Highways and passed on these concerns. One of the concerns raised with me was access for emergency service vehicles. I have been assured by Gloucestershire Highways that all emergency service vehicles, including SARA, who have a base on the peninsula, will be given high priority and will be able to travel along the road during the closure.

Similarly, I have also raised my concerns regarding access for carers and district nurses. Gloucestershire Highways have stated that they have an active engagement process for dealing with any care and wellbeing cases that are brought to their attention and will deal with them on a case by case basis. I am pleased that Gloucestershire Highways will be taking a proactive approach however if you or someone you know are experiencing any problems with access from health professionals then please do contact me and I will raise them urgently with Gloucestershire Highways.

As with any road maintenance works, plans are subject to change. In order to keep updated, you can find information on this scheme online. As a result, I have copied useful links below.
