Nominations for the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2020 have now closed
The awards are an opportunity for MPs to champion the contribution of their local NHS staff and people within the health and care sector.
This year I nominated the Forest Inpatient Unit at Dilke Memorial Hospital for The Care and Compassion Award. During the pandemic, the unit became a ward for COVID-19 patients and this amazing team stepped up to the challenge. They supported each other through a very difficult time for the country and gave fantastic care and consideration to all patients and families. In particular, staff spent more time with patients at the bedside when they needed it most and a tremendous effort was made to help families communicate virtually with their loved ones.
I am immensely grateful to the dedication and resilience shown by this team - I wish them the best of luck with the award process!
A particularly special thank you is to Marion Watts, the Glos Health Referral Centre Team Administrator, who went above and beyond her role to support a patient and their wife in obtaining essential supplies over the lockdown period.
Finally, a huge thank you to all our amazing carers and NHS staff across the Forest of Dean for working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to save lives and keep our communities going, and I would also like to thank the volunteers and members of the public for pulling together and supporting the NHS like never before.
