Recently, I had the honour of stopping by the home of Trooper Denis Ireland – suitably socially distanced, of course.
You may remember Denis, who will turn 97 this weekend and served our country in the Second World War in North Africa and Italy, for his superb fundraising efforts for Great Oaks Dean Forest Hospice Events in the Trooper Denis Challenge.
By walking 97 times up and down his drive, he is raising funds for the team at Great Oaks Hospice in Coleford, where his daughter Jan is one of the team, for the great work they do.
I have been privileged to visit the Hospice on a number of occasions during my 15 years as the Forest’s MP, and now I have visited one of their most famous fundraisers!
He may have already smashed his target, but you can donate and read more about Denis’s fantastic efforts on his JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/denis-ireland
Many happy returns, Denis!
