Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting with Charlie’s, a community group set-up to benefit the Health & Wellbeing of anyone affected by Cancer, at any stage.
Founded by Jo Sutherland in 2014, a whole range of Holistic Therapies are available through Charlie’s and these assist visitors in coping with the effects of living with cancer. I had the opportunity to experience first-hand the benefits of Reiki and to explore some of the other therapies on offer. Over a cup of coffee and some fruit (cakes were available!), I met with Maddy McLaughlin – who leads their Forest team - as well as therapists, volunteers and visitors, to understand the specific needs of the group.
With social prescribing becoming an active part of treatment and care, Charlie’s is supporting GP’s and pharmacies in letting people know how they can help.
Monthly meetings are held in Lydney and the centre in Gloucester is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10.00am – 2.00pm, but there are lots of activities and groups available at other times, so do check out their website for details.
