June saw the start of “summer fete” season in the Forest of Dean and, setting the tone for a summer that saw week after week of glorious weather, I was pleased to support the League of Friends Dilke Hospital Funday.
I enjoy going to this event every year and there was a good mix of stalls including Archery, Circus Skills, Face Painting and a performance from the Berry Hill Brass Band.
Later in the month, I joined Cllrs Carole Allaway Martin and Marrilyn Smart, as we supported the Great Oaks Hospice with their summer fundraiser. The Hospice does outstanding work and offers a wide range of services for adults who have potentially life-shortening illnesses. Included within their work is support for families and carers.
At this time of year in particular, I would like to thank the staff at the hospice for all the work they do throughout the year, and I look forward to working with them again in 2019.
It was a busy month at Westminster also: at PMQs on 13th June I questioned the Prime Minister on our migration policy post-brexit, raising the importance of leaving the single market so that we could take back control of our immigration policy.
I also supported my colleague Luke Hall MP in Parliament by attending his “A Taste of South Gloucestershire” event in the Jubilee Room and sampling produce from the likes of Lovett Pies, Wickwar Wessex Brewing Co and Hobbs House Bakery Bristol whose bread is available to buy at the Severn & Wye Smokery in Chaxhill.
