Conservative Party Conference

This week, the Conservative Party held its annual Party Conference – hosted this year in Manchester. The key message from Conference was to put forward our plan to build a country that works for everyone.

Helping people exercise their right to vote

One of my roles in Parliament is acting as the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Learning Disability - a role to which I was recently re-elected.

A new hospital for the Forest of Dean

Last week, our local NHS (NHS Gloucestershire CCG (CCG) and the Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust (CST)), launched their 12 week public consultation on a preferred option to build a new community hospital in the Forest of Dean by 2021/2022.

Delivering a smooth Brexit

This week, the House of Commons voted on Second Reading of the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill – the Bill that delivers the first step of our promise to respect the result of last year’s EU referendum, and end the authority of EU laws in the UK.

Protecting our citizens

This year has seen some of the worst terror attacks our country has faced in decades – in Westminster, the Manchester Arena, London Bridge and Finsbury Park. These acts of terrorism seek to spread fear, intolerance and hate – we cannot allow them to succeed.

Employment at record levels

Recent figures released by the independent Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that employment in the UK has reached its highest rate on record, at 75.1%, with over 32 million people now in work, up 338,000 in the past year and over 3 million since 2010.

Education and Apprenticeships

Congratulations to all of those students who received their GCSEs last week, and A-Level results the week before. I wish them all the best of luck as they either continue their time in education, or begin their journey from school and college into the wider world.

Funding our universities

The question of how we finance our higher education system has been widely debated in recent weeks.

Summer Fayres & Fetes

One of the enjoyable parts of being a local Member of Parliament is being able to attend all of the local fairs and fetes across the constituency that occur over the summer period.
