Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Home Builders Federation’s (HBF) ‘Skills Showcase’ hosted in Parliament. The event highlighted the ongoing efforts of the HBF and local companies such as MF Freeman to develop the workforce needed to construct high-quality and energy-efficient new homes.
It was great to chat with Jack, a trainee quantity surveyor at MF Freeman, about his career development in the house-building industry and David, MF Freeman’s Head of Organisational Development, about the projects they are working on across the Forest.
As many will know, I am a big supporter of apprenticeships and the fantastic opportunities they present to young people wishing to enter the workforce and gain valuable skills without accumulating debt from a university course, but also to employers in utilising the wide array of talent we have here in the Forest of Dean.
